dead prez featuring Malcolm X – “Politrikkks”

Shout out to D. Prosper for this leak. The RBG’z, dead prez are back, and just in time to make their voices heard about the upcoming 2008 Presidential Election with their latest song – “Politrikkks.” The track, which appears to be the first single off of their forthcoming album, Information Age, is a cautionary, radical statement about what people (African-Americans in particular) should expect if Senator Barack Obama gets in to the White House.

This song sounds similar to what Phiscal Matters contributing editor, Saabir wrote in his essay – Black Prosperity and The “Messiah Complex.”

Change…True

Shout out to Jycorri and the big homie, Ryan for this one. Filmmaker Charles Stone III (Paid In Full, Drumline and Mr. 3000), most notably known for the Budweiser True ad campaign, a.k.a. “Whasssuuuppp” TV commercials in 2000, is back with a redux of that classic spoof – just in time for Election Day.

Stone is a genius for capturing the most pressing socio-political and economic issues of the day, and updating it – “Whassuupp” style. Utterly Hilarious!!!

Shock And Awe

Former Federal Reserve Bank Chairman, Alan Greenspan in his testimony before Congress this past Thursday said: “Those of us who have looked to the self-interest of lending institutions to protect shareholder’s equity — myself especially — are in a state of shocked disbelief…” Age must be a truth serum, because here Greenspan exposes the very flaw of laissez-faire capitalism. The fundamental problem is that most proponents of market “self”-regulation see both the market and corporations as individual persons.

This worldview of both the market and the corporation as a person is downright pathological; and the underpinning of this crisis that we’re facing. The ultimate end of deregulation …

Is Eight Points Enough?

According to the Zogby International Poll, Senator Barack Obama is up +8% versus McCain as of today’s (10/21) data release. However, just this past Sunday Obama was up by only +3% points.

One distinguishing characteristic about the Zogby poll is that they weight down responses from Democrats to fit the general population of voters. The CBS/New York Times poll which has Obama with the largest margin at 12% (as of 10/14), actually has more registered Independents (33%) in their weighted sample than registered Republicans (29%), with Democrats at 38%. Naturally this composition would would yield more of a pro-Obama outcome. CNN’s polling is actually done by …

Oil Is Down, But Other Prices Are Stable

We’ve all seen the price of a barrel of oil plummet over the last few weeks to half of what is was in the summer, now $70-$75. While gas prices at the pump have gone down by a lot too, roughly 29% since July, that’s still not half (-50%) to match the decline in a barrel of crude oil. In fact, food prices which have been driven up due to energy, haven’t retreated at all.

Unlike food prices, commodities are set on the market everyday. In other words – when folks like you and I shop we buy products from …
